Willie,
On Friday, I took my trash off and as I was going down the road, I saw two dogs chained up in the woods. Two days later, I took my trash off again and they were still chained up and starving so I called 911. They said they couldnāt do anything even though I told them the dogs were starving, so they put me through to animal control. I was told I could give them an address and they would send me some papers to fill out, or I could go there and fill them out, but they couldnāt go out to someoneās property to get someoneās animal. So, I guess nothing can be done about the dogs starving and chained in the woods. Iām just curious. Who do I report something like that to?
Willie says:
Youāve probably done the best you can. Animal control officers canāt go wandering onto peopleās private property without a formal complaint or a court order. Thatās too bad when animals are being abused, but Iām sure you wouldnāt want the police being able to just walk onto your property because they heard something from your neighbor. Itās a touchy deal. Fill out the paperwork and make it a formal complaint. Then keep your eye on those poor animals and keep pressing the issue if nothing gets done soon.
Willie,
Love your column, Willie, but you need to be made aware of something. You said, āin Oconee County, a manās property is his to do with what he likes.ā While that is true in Oconee County, the ācastleā is inside Senecaās city limits where there is an ordinance regarding weeds. It seems to me the city of Seneca should enforce that rule for all property in the city, not just in the historical district.
Willie says:
Willie stands corrected. The city should enforce its ordinance. Otherwise, why have it?
Willie,
I wanted to write you and tell you just how our world has become. My husband and myself went into a bookstore today, and we were just looking around for a book for our daughterās birthday. Well, while we were browsing around, we had made it to the Christian book area. Well, I turned around to look to see what was behind me and there right beside the Christian section was the XXX sex section. I understand we are all human and we need sex to have babies
and make a world of people, but a lot of the books in that area were telling you how to have sex and what ways to put your body in and there were pictures as well. I feel as a parent and as a Christian, there should not be a triple XXX section. Iāll never go back until some changes are made, and I will make sure to tell friends, family and church all about this. Itās a shame when there is no respect for any one this day and time.
Willie says:
You told āem.
Willie,
Did you ever find out where Dabo Swinney got his name, Dabo? It would be interesting to find out.
Willie says:
Dabo got his name from his older brother, who is just a couple of years older than him. After Dabo was born, he would try to say "that boy" whenever he saw Dabo. However, he could not pronounce the words correctly and instead of saying "that boy," it would sound like "Dabo." Subsequently, it stuck. Dabo's real name by the way is William. Iāll just bet Dabo wishes his nickname was āWillieā!
Willie,
Two weeks ago, my family gathered at a local restaurant after church. I have eaten at this place many times in the past and never really had any major problems until now! We finished our meal, paid and went home only to learn later that the manager of this restaurant overcharged my debit card by $63! When I returned to ask questions, I was told he made a mistake and had ācreditedā it back to my account. Two weeks later, still no money. I have returned to this place numerous times over the past two weeks with bank statements and letters. Still nothing. I have called and tried to talk to the manager and of course, heās never there. They wonāt tell me when he is going to be working or anything. I have even tried to get the ownerās name and number only to get hung up on. Great customer service right?! The last time I was there, the assistant manager told me that if I wanted to write him a post dated check, he would give me cash back! Do I have stupid written across my forehead or something? I just wanted to let people know that they need to keep an eye on this because it makes you wonder how many times this has happened and been overlooked. Also, I wanted to let the people of this restaurant know that I have been very patient with them and I have already spoken to people who are very interested in starting an investigation. And if I have to take matters further, I will! $63 dollars isnāt a lot of money to some people, but what they did was wrong! People of Oconee, beware!
Willie says:
If the restaurant will not refund the money they mistakenly charged you, do everything you can to make them accountable through a legal investigation through whatever means your bank advises you. They should be ashamed of themselves for their lack of honesty.
Willie,
I was reading your column the other day and read where there was someone concerned about the police in Salem again. As a taxpayer, I think they should do like other small towns and contract out the police department. We do not need someone who is only concerned with harassing the kids and elderly.
Willie says:
Just because someone did not like an encounter they or someone they know had with the law, doesnāt mean they are āonly concerned with harassing kids and the elderly.ā Thatās a big jump to conclusions.
And ā¦
Willie,
Is there a way to make a formal complaint against an officer of the law? The reason I am asking is an officer that gives other officers a bad name stopped me. He was so rude it is obvious that he has an axe to grind or is on a power trip. I would like to know how to let someone in charge know about this. I was told he was the chief, so now what? Who is over the chief of police in Salem?
Willie says:
The chief of police answers to the Town Council. Theyād be the ones to receive your formal complaint.
Willie,
I ate at Nickās Diner located on W.N. 1st Street in Seneca. A friend of mine had recommended it. The food was great. The menu had some southern dishes as well as baked or grilled food. Willie, I like to support our locally owned businesses. I want to encourage others to try Nickās for themselves. If they share my feeling about the great food for a great price, then maybe they will tell someone and the business will continue to grow and thrive.
Willie says:
Word of mouth is a way to grow a business. So is advertising. Iām always looking for coupons to give new places a try, while āeconomizingā my wallet. People do need to support the local economy where they live.
Willie,
I would like to thank the Oconee office of Blue Ridge Electric Co-op for sponsoring the Pesticide Recertification Program on Oct. 20 ā a job well done for those who were responsible. Also I should thank the Oconee Soil and Water Conservation Office (Ann Heron) for their part in putting this need into operation.
Willie says:
Theyāll be glad their efforts were appreciated.
Willie,
Matt Wake was a great asset to the newspaper and all of us in Pendleton will miss his coverage of our area. We wish him all the best.
Willie says:
Willie echoes you exactly. Matt Wake is a classy gentleman, and the staff at the newspaper really misses him. His career is moving onward and upward though, and thatās a good thing.
Willie,
I would like to qualify my comment before making it. I am a life long, home grown resident of Oconee County. I was raised here and I raised my family here. I recently returned home from completing three tours in Afghanistan and then three tours in Iraq. While serving my country, my daughters and wife would save articles and comments posted in the Daily Journal. One comment posted in your paper was about a cop/fireman that seemed disgruntled that he did not get an article written on him as another former cop did. Then, he writes a response in the comment section and calls himself, āI am all that.ā I would like to say that my reasoning for writing this comment is that my family knows this ex-cop well. He wrote both of my daughters speeding tickets, which now costs me about another thousand dollars per year on my insurance. Even though they were wrong, I wonder where some compassion lies with this guy. There has got to be more to being a cop than stopping kids and giving them tickets, which adds to the financial burden on the parents. This guy called himself āAll that.ā He was nothing more than a meter maid in a Mustang. I did not call this personās name because I donāt know your publication rules. And, it is great to be home.
Willie says:
Willie is glad you are home too! Thank you for serving our country for so long and, Iām sure, so well. Now you and your wife and daughters can truly enjoy life together as a loving family.

To the man who just got back from his tour, WELCOME HOME and thank you for your service to our country.
Now, about your daughters getting their speeding tickets, be thankful that they got a ticket and a few years of higher insurance rates rather than getting a call from the hospital that your child has been in a wreck (due to nothing more than GOING TOO FAST) and they need you to come right away. Everyone wants to gripe about getting a speeding ticket. I wish that was ALL my child would have gotten. Compassion only goes so far when you are breaking the law. Everyone wants to gripe and complain when they get a speeding ticket, but YOU are the one responsible for how you drive. Don't blame the cop who is only doing their job for a lot less than you probably make. Tell your kids that if they don't want a ticket, then slow down. Tell them that if they get a ticket, THEY will have to get a job to pay for their now sky high insurance rates. Yes, everyone makes a mistake once in a while, but when your mistake is BREAKING THE LAW, then you will have to pay the consequences. Call it a lesson in growing up. Be thankful you still have your daughters to see and hold every day instead of visiting them at the cemetary.

First, I would like to also thank and congradulate the service man that just returned home to his family. Secondly, don't confuse my sign-in name with some one who has a lead foot. My GrandFather and I raised and raced horses for many years. BUT, I think I know this officer that drove a Ford Mustang in Seneca because he also gave me a ticket for speeding. I was doing 7 miles per hour over the speed limit on highway 123. I was guilty. But I was driving a truck that is almost 40 years old. My GrandFather bought it new. When this guy pulled me over I thought I had done something else because everyone else seemed to be passing me. I guess I was the easiest to catch. When I went to the city court to plea my case, this officer talked as if I had killed someone. I understand the statement about compasion. It also needs to be impressed some where about understanding. I was not running from the cops or a crime. I was doing 7 miles over the speed limit. GUILTY AS CHARGED. I believe that some cities use this as a money maker.

The police should be watching these teen drivers more. My grandmother picks a grand child up from school every day. On the way home all these teenagers get beind her and run her off the road and try to pass her on curvy roads. Last school year I had to follow her home so they would stay off her butt, it's not above me to slam on my breaks to give these little punks a warning. I even tried talking with one of the mothers and she refused to talk with me because she didn't want to know what her daughter was doing. Well guess what, her daughter has recked three cars in the past year and they keep supplying the cars. If it were one of my kids they wouldn't be driving nothing but a bicycle! Parents need take more responsibility when it comes to their kids driving to fast, besides a speeding ticket, the parent needs to take their ride away for awhile and make them walk or stay at home. Just like the kid who almost hit me and my kids last week, not only was this kid speeding he was on my side of the road. I told his mother and all she said was WELL. This is just my experience and my opinion. But if it were my kids I would want someone to tell me before my kids were in an accident and killed themselves or another family. Sorry so long!!!

Thanks to the man just home, and WELCOME back.
Please be thankful that you still have your daughters to complain about. Alot of parents lost their kids due to driving too fast, while you were gone, and would love to be able to have your complaints.
I have had a couple of speeding tickets, because I was speeding. Got upset, but with myself. 7 miles over is still speeding. My son has been in Iraq and or Afghanistan for most of the last 5 years, but his wife and daughter, who both drive haven't gotten speeding tickets and wanted the cops to overlook them. Still have to obey the law. It is not their fault that we speed, just their jobs to stop crime. And, believe me, they let alot of speeders get by, because I drive along side them each and every day. Not right, but, they cannot catch them all.

odj, well said. I have been pulled over for speeding and even though there were people riding beside me I was the one who got the ticket. I didn't even get upset because I deserved it. I think there's only been one time when I didn't think I should have gotten a ticket. I was in a wreck and I wasn't speeding, a van was stopped in the middle of the road, had no brake lights or flashers on. The truck in front of them had some trash fly out of the back of their truck. They were all in the middle of the road picking up the trash (in front on the van I hit) Well I didn't think they were stopped and I hit them. I got a ticket for going too fast for conditions. That's the only reck I have ever been in, hope it stays that way.

One mile per hour is speeding and illegal . I think, unless I misunderstood a couple of the comments, the point was is to use a little discretion or common sense when enforcing the law. As you can tell with my sign in name, I did it for a while. Traffic enforcement is not just to see how much money you can make for your jurisdiction but make your area safer. I have had a lot of sucsess just calling the parents. I have witnessed a lot officers trying to feather their caps by seeing how many ticket they can write. Lots of the smaller towns set up speed traps to write tickets instead of enforcing the traffic laws in areas that have a lot of accidents.

A bit of the pot calling the kettle pink I'd say. And still you avoid the question. Actually I have not read one thing you have written that has even been remotely upbeat or positive. Matter of fact I believe everything you've written has been telling someone somewhere what to do. I would imagine that if you gave a satisfactory answer to the question instead of playing woe is me for the family, this would all go away. No one here has accused the family of any wrongdoing. Mr. Orr is the one who was in the wrong. His lack of respect for his family and the community spurred a fraudulent manhunt. To imply that I would have been happier if he was found dead is absolutely absurd. The other folks that post on here are not afraid to answer questions. That is what makes this section so great, we can come together and volley opinions back and forth without telling each other what to do and how to do it. I've been reading the comments about officers doing their jobs enforcing traffic laws. In this case, it's speeding, other times it's running stop signs and red lights. There's plenty of all of that, every day, and I thank our city, county and state officers for their flashing blue lights. To those who say, "Gosh, officer, I was only going 5 over", isn't that like saying it's illegal to steal $100, but stealing just $5 isn't a big deal? Five years ago, a driver running a stop sign killed my sister. I wonder if he looked both ways, before running that stop sign, and said, "Aw heck, ain't nobody coming". I wonder if he told the officer working her death, Gosh, officer, I slowed down and almost stopped. No big deal, right?" A little too fast, almost stopping and pushing the yellow light are common, but they all kill people. My sister's family can vouch for that. Thank you, officers.

If you are not enraged, you haven't been paying attention to reality.

Like Ken has said a couple times before, we had six good economic years with Bush before the democrats took over the senate. Like it or not enforcer bush is not the only one; notice I said NOT THE ONLY ONE, meaning he IS partially to blame; that has put us in this economic mess. Also you are assuming that Mccain would've perpetuated all of Bush's policies. No one will ever know that now.
Btw, the rage comment had nothing to do with politics.

Hay Enforcer, do you think Obama and Bush have an agreement. If Obama doesnāt go after Bush for trumped up war crimes then Bush wonāt go after Obama for taking bribes front Freddie and Fannie while a Senator.

I guess Christians shouldn't have a problem with Christian EXTREMESTS? Wrong! And hey, no rage here either stinks. But it's nice of you to label my beliefs isn't it.

er, ah EXTREMISTS, sorry, have to go to work and too pressed for time for spell check. Speaking of sorry, sorry for those who want to merge my meaning from Christian Extremist to Christians in general. Sorry you don't seem to have the intellect or open mindedness to differentiate as well. I might pray for you... Don't hold your breath though.

You're a little fireball aren't you. I apologize for leaving out the word extremist. And thank you for prayers, that's very Christian Extremist-like of you. Did I use the phrase correctly this time.
"MyTake has very rage-filled beliefs." That is an example fo how one would label your beliefs.
"Lots of rage against Christians in MyTake, huh Fred?" That was just me stating my opinion.
I do apologize for any confusion I may have caused.
